Wickliffe, Ohio-based Lubrizol Corp. said it has broken ground on a TempRite chlorinated polyvinyl chloride compounding plant in Dahej, India.

The investment in the plant is more than $50 million, the company said in a news release Friday, April 4. The plant will be able to produce about 55,000 metric tons of compounds each year. Lubrizol’s CPVC products are used in a variety of piping and plumbing applications.

The plant is a part of the company’s previously announced $400 million global expansion in its resin and compounding capacity. It will be located in a development center of Gujarat Industrial Development Corp., which Lubrizol called one of India’s largest chemical parks. Many of the raw materials needed for Lubrizol’s specialty chemical products are produced there.

The plant will support the growing market in India, as well as the TempRite CPVC business in South Asia, the Middle East and East Africa, Lubrizol said in the release.

The plant is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2015.
